Head coach Chris Standidge got things underway on Saturday at Abersoch Sprint with a successful defense of his title. He loves racing over there as it feels like he is on holiday (must be the sand!)
Out in Kitzbühel we had 2 TTT athletes racing in GB colours; Claire Birch who raced in the 40-44 AG and finished in 2:55 and Paul Chesworth suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury he has been suffering with during the run so wasn’t able to give the performance he hoped for.
Many TTT athletes out at Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire which pulled together a very strong field and 2nd place in AG was the theme of the day!
Rob Flack (25-29) Phil Murphy (35-39) Martin Cain (40-44) great performances all round. Rob’s result is particularly impressive given that it was his 70.3 debut – more things to come from this talented athlete. Phil is showing his form finishing 26th Overall (inc Pros) and 2nd in AG making real strides again this year. Scott Welsby pushed hard to the end experiencing issue on the run to finish a credible 6th in AG but a way off where he wants to be. Alex Ward pushed hard all day for 14th in AG, Ian Peers spent a period of time in the Medical Tent but bravely soldiered to the finish Holly Metcalfe who doesn’t race well in the heat survived to 26th in AG.
Julie Cullen showed a massive improvement winning her AG at the NHS fun tri – so unexpected she has gone home before the prize ceremony!
In Single sport racing John Wallas rode 63 minutes in a local 25m TT and Yvie Ryan was 5th lady across the line at the Port Sunlight 5km. Scott Wilson had a busy week last week racing the hilly Hanworth 5 mile road race and finishing 2nd overall (seen above with his prize, chocolate definitely beats a trophy!!) and then two days later racing Buxton Fell Race and managing to storm 4th in that too, a great week for Scott!
Bet there are some interesting tan lines on show today!!
