Tom Garbett

I have been racing since I was 10 but have been taking it seriously since 2012 when I was able to race with the adults. I enjoy racing all distances up to half ironman and wish to go longer in the future up to full ironman. My favourite race to date has to be either the European standard distance age group championships in Kitzbuhel in 2014 where I finished 3rd in my AG or Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire as that was my first half ironman and I finished 3rd in the 18-24 age group.

The bike leg is my favourite discipline, I love the hills especially the descents and also being able to go hard on the flats!  My dad started coaching at a triathlon club in Oswestry and I joined then when I was about 10 and have been hooked since.

My triathlon achievements to date:

1st overall at Cerist Olympic 2013
1st overall at Oswestry sprint 2013
2nd overall at Dearnford Olympic 2014 and 2015
3rd overall at Slateman Sprint 2013/2014
3rd 18-21AG at European standard distance age group championships 2014
2nd under 21 at Slateman full 2015
4th overall at Harlech sprint 2015
7th at Horwich Tri first under 21
4th overall at Storm The Castle Duathlon 2015
3rd 18-24AG at IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire

Outside of triathlon I don’t really have time for many other hobbies (a common theme!) but I do like cooking and trying out new healthier ideas….and also eating a hell of a lot! (I’m a growing boy it’s fine!!!)

I came across Total Tri when I was looking for a new coach and my dad spoke to Phil after they both finished Ironman Wales in 2014, I joined the team pretty much straight away in October 2014.  The biggest benefit of being coached is having a great structured training programme with quality training sessions within, and from this being able to see myself improve and get stronger and most of all race faster! Also another benefit is that I can easily get in contact with Phil and the other coaches and get some great advice and feedback which is good to hear during big blocks of training to help with motivation.
